Rimmel Apocalips Review

There are countless reviews around of the Rimmel Apocalips glossy stains so I'll keep this short and sweet. I picked up the shades, Stellar a bright coral pink, Apocaliptic a bright red toned pink, and Big Bang a true glossy red, when boots had a three for two offer on.

Firstly, these glosses are the most intensely pigmented lip product I have ever used. One tiny dab is all you need to blend out to a strong lip. I like to apply these with a little dot of product in the middle and then using a lip brush and blending out to the rest of the lips. Because these are so pigmented, I find that using the doe foot applicator can apply too much product, especially to the edges of the lips.

Building these up slowly creates a beautiful rich lip colour that lasts for a long time. I don't find them particularly drying, though my lips are very dry anyway so if I need a little more moisture throughout the day I just dab a balm on top.

The only niggle I have with these is that they can transfer throughout the day. For example, on my lips, I found that if I didn't blot, then as I talked/smiled I would transfer the product from the bottom of my lip to my chin - not attractive! Although blotting helps this when I wear these I'm constantly aware of it on my lips as I'm so nervous of smudging it around my face.

Although I'm nervous of a scary lipstick disaster, so far it hasn't happened, and I still love wearing these. Big Bang especially is such a gorgeous red, really glossy and rich. And I know that they will last me forever as you need to use such a tiny amount.

Nails: Springtime dots

It's finally brightened up in the UK and I've been loving the warm weather, sunshine and springtime clothes.

To celebrate I did a quick bit of spring inspired nail art. I simply painted my nails with Rimmels Nail Tip Whitener (this is a good polish but I wouldn't recommend using this all over your nails as it can get quite thick and gloopy) then used a dotting tool to spot bright colours at the base of each nail and creeping up the side a little.

The colours I used were Essie Cute as a Button, Essie Mint Candy Apple, Barry M Peach Melba and Barry M Prickly Pear. I also used Rimmel's Nail Rescue Base Coat and Pro Superwear Ultra Shine Top Coat and I've had minimal chipping and wear the past few days I've been wearing them. 00

Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm

I craved the Reve de Miel lip balm for a good six months or so before I finally made the plunge. At around £10 for the little pot it always seemed too expensive for me but I jumped at the chance when I saw it for 1/3rd off at esscentual.com.

This natural lip balm contains a handful of nourishing ingredients: honey, plant oils, shea butter and grape fruit oils. The texture is pretty thick and slightly waxy but manages to penetrate the lips and moisturise. As the balm warms up it can get a little more oily but on the lips it gives a matte finish. The smell is gorgeous too, just like lemon curd with a hint of honey, a beautiful non sickly scent.

I was hoping that this would be the solution for my permanently dry chapped lips. It wasn't but it has helped. I was a little disappointed that this wasn't the miracle product I had hoped for but I can't deny that it is the longest lasting balm that I own. If I apply before bed it sticks around till the morning and it does keep my lips moisturised and nourished.

I bought the balm stick at the same time. It has a completely different texture to the balm, I find it to be more oily and less penetrable. It has the same citrus scent but I find myself reaching for a standard Nivea balm over this as I just feel that they sink into my lips more.

I still think the price is a little steep, but you only need to apply a tiny smudge at a time and the pot is larger than most. Overall I think that paired with my ultimate faveourite - Blistex relief cream, a sugar lip scrub and maybe a pair of handcuffs to stop myself tearing away at the dry skin on my lips, a pair of sumptuous soft lips might be on the horizon.
